The best part is that people are actually trying to seriously answer them.
There was a time when many serious breeders and serious hobbyists used to not only frequent, but also contribute to this forum...
Owing to such factors as "forum wars" and the "vaguely juvenile" mentality of certain regular "contributors", the vast majority of these serious folks no longer post to this forum...
Having brought the level of this forum down to their own subterranean depths, many of the maturity-challenged "contributors" appear to enjoy mocking not only the true subject matter of this forum, but also those who would contribute and learn from the free exchange of ideas that should occur in such an environment...
We have probably all seen the "People are stupid" signature line...
We have probably all seen the plethora of snapshots of cornsnakes...or whatever those little shoelaces are...
And now, a new angle...
Pose a slew of sarcastic questions...
Questions that are only posted for the purpose of ridiculing those having less knowledge...
And then, when a few folks make an honest attempt to provide good information in response to what they perceive to be an honest question...
Openly mock them...
Once you have succeeded in driving away the remainder of serious responders, what then...???
Perhaps you will chose to while away countless hours deriding this forum for the "lack of participation" of its members...???
There's nothing wrong with a little humor...
But when your style of "humor" is nothing more than a thinly-veiled attempt to abuse forum members that do not fit nicely into your little clique, I find no humor in that...
I used to enjoy participating in this forum...
I rarely participate now...
Would you like to know why...???
It's just not worth the effort to have to deal with people like you...
So...
Go ahead...
Let's see your interminable onslaught that will no doubt be unleashed in response to this post of mine...
What should we expect...???
What you'll probably say...
"Ooh...Renaissance must have got his panties in a wad".
"Ooh...Renaissance has no sense of humor".
"Ooh...lighten up...we're only having a little fun".
"Ooh...I'll never buy a snake from you".
What I'll probably hear...
"Blah...blah...blah...".
Have fun stroking your collective egos...

Those posts were funny. They were funny because it is something you hear quite often and the sad part is not to the person posting the question but the fact they should have been handed that information the day they purchased the ball python. I have often talked about how sad it is that an honest serious question is rarely answered. Ask glkherp. But I saw nothing wrong with those posts because it was poking fun of nothing more than the fact it is sad any pet store or breeder would not have already answered those questions.
I'm fairly new to this hobby (three years in December), but I had all these questions answered long before I got any snakes. And I did start with corns.
It's sad thes questions are asked every day, nonetheless, from people who already have the snakes. It it as easy to find a care sheet as it is to click "post new message."
When I was 12, I wanted a green iguana more than anything. I went to a reptile pet shop here in MN, and they refused to sell one to me. "Maybe some anoles would be better." They were right. If only everyone was that responsible selling their reptiles, it would be a perfect world. In that world, I would not reccomend BPs as a beginner snake and this forum would be less about those questions.
Sorry to offend you, Renaissance. You have some sweet animals, and I respect you and your collection. I didn't think Bachman was out of line, though, and I think a reason why a lot of people don't hang out on these forums is because they are clogged up with those questions that should have been answerewd long before the snake was bought.
You may have "had all these questions answered long before you got any snakes", but perhaps not everyone is like you...
What about questions that you did not think to ask "long before you got any snakes"...???
How many questions have arisen as a direct consequence of actually having snakes...
That you didn't think to ask "long before you got into snakes"...???
Where do we draw the line as to which questions deserve ridicule and derision...
And which questions deserve a serious reply...???
Is there some limit that I am unaware of...
That once a question has been asked "that number of times"...
We all now pounce on any subsequent asking of that question...???
"It's sad these questions are asked every day, nonetheless, from people who already have the snakes. It it as easy to find a care sheet as it is to click "post new message.""
I don't disagree with you...
I just disagree with your response...
Wouldn't it make for a much happier and healthier forum if you took the time to reply with a simple link to an appropriate care sheet...
Or, perhaps, "nudge" them in the right direction of where to find such a care sheet...
I actually find it rather amusing...
And hypocritical...
Many of the folks who find it hysterically funny to poke fun at the questions repeatedly asked by newcomers to this field...
Are actually the first to deride newcomers who "do things wrong"...
Catch a clue...
Newcomers to the world of ball pythons do not usually ask questions to "irritate people who know the answers"...
They usually ask questions because they do not know the answers...
"Sorry to offend you, Renaissance."
I am not offended...
Not in the least...
I merely disagree with some of your opinions...
I was particularly interested by one of your last points...
"I think a reason why a lot of people don't hang out on these forums is because they are clogged up with those questions that should have been answered long before the snake was bought."
I disagree...
I think a reason why a lot of people don't hang out on these forums is because of the hostile and inhospitable atmosphere that is choking them...
There again...
Perhaps I am wrong...
Perhaps we should ban people from asking questions on these forums...
Perhaps then we'd see people returning in droves...???
Actually, I think you are wrong...
I think people do hang out here...
Including most of the big-name breeders...
They just don't post...
I wonder why that would be...???

Nothing wrong with having fun, but sarcasm is not always obvious... Especially when it is read on a computer screen, and you are relying on the reader to KNOW who you are... Why discourage people from posting simple questions? Not everyone is good at using the search feature, or sometimes they just don't want to spend the time.
I am one to welcome all questions and I do answer even the most simple questions. That is why I thought the post was funny. I answer them all the time. I never ridicule people and I happened to think the sarcastic post bachman made and the responses were fun and for the most part light hearted. Its better than aswering the same thing over and over and then snapping on some unsuspecing individual that had no clue you answer those all the time. I for one enjoyed the laugh and it kept me from wanting to smack the next person who asked the same thing that is on here over and over. It did quite the oposite and kept me in a better mood when I see them more often because I looked at is as a resposibility to pick up where the seller lacked. I agree there should not have been people teasing the people who actually tried to take the questions seriously but it was worth a little laugh. I felt a bit dumb when I fell for a joke with a low white pied asking if its a morph when the pic was taken at an angle no white was showing. I thouht it was funny and had to laugh at myself for trying to believe this person honestly thought they just realized their ball python didnt look normal.
If you notice, I did not post my reply to any of the "sarcastic, let's make fun of newbies" posts...
I posted my reply to bloodycats openly mocking the folks who had made the cardinal error of innocently assuming that the "sarcastic, let's make fun of newbies" posts were, in fact, legitimate questions...
In my opinion, posting
"Buahaahaa The best part is that people are actually trying to seriously answer them."
goes way beyond "poking fun of nothing more than the fact it is sad any pet store or breeder would not have already answered those questions"...
Had bloodycats responded with something along the lines of your reply to my post, then in my opinion that would have been entirely reasonable...
The response made by bloodycats, however, was to gleefully gloat about the fact that some innocent and obviously well-meaning individuals had mistaken these "sarcastic, let's make fun of newbies" threads for legitimate requests for assistance...
Exactly what questions should be answered by a pet store or breeder...???
While I am sure that pet stores and breeders would attempt to answer any questions that they are asked that they know the answer to, there may well be instances where someone who has an animal either does not feel comfortable with the answer provided, or they would like a second opinion...
What should they do then...???
Come to a forum such as this and seek other alternative opinions...???
Or, should they refrain from asking such questions on this forum because folks will openly mock them for their lack of knowledge...???
The actions of many of the "contributors" on this board really define the word "hypocrite"...
They whine when "newbies" make mistakes with husbandry issues resulting from their lack of knowledge...
They whine when "newbies" ask questions that "should have been answered by the pet store or breeder"...
And yet they whine about the dearth of accurate information that is often available through pet stores...
If your belief is that all questions should be answered by the pet store or breeder from which an animal is acquired, what then is the function of forums such as this...???
If at least part of the function of a forum such as this is not to "answer questions", then I would be most surprised...
"They were funny because it is something you hear quite often and the sad part is not to the person posting the question but the fact they should have been handed that information the day they purchased the ball python."
Exactly what information should people be handed the day they purchased the ball python...???
It would obviously be nice if basic husbandry issues were covered...
But what about more complex issues...???
What about issues related to breeding...???
Should we overwhelm the new keeper with information related to every common ball python disease/health issue known to exist...???
Who decides what "facts should have been handed to the puchaser"...???
You...???
Perhaps we should draw a line in the sand...
We'll tell every new ball python owner everything you think is relevant...
And skip the rest...
Here's something for you to think about...
Did you ever have a question about ball pythons that you asked on this forum...???
If so, why...???
Why didn't you get your answers from the pet store or breeder that you acquired your ball pythons from...???
Perhaps we should all mock you for that...???
I wonder how many knowledgeable folks find your questions to be "funny" because they have heard them so many times before...???
If you find nothing wrong with these posts...
And with bloodycats openly mocking the innocent folks who took the time to compose thoughtful and informative responses to what they considered to be honest questions...
Then that is both your opinion and your right...
I certainly appreciate the fact that you took the time to compose a thought-provoking and well-written reply to my post...
Just out of interest, how would it make you feel if I now said "Hah...what a loser...isn't it funny how he didn't know that my original reply was just a joke...ha, ha,ha"...???
Think about it...
The people being mocked by bloodycats did no more and no less than you...
They posted a well-written reply to what they mistakenly believed to be an honest question...
Then were ridiculed for it...

If this is all a joke then you got me...good one and that took some skill to put that much heart into it. I agree 98% that there should not be teasing to people trying to legitimately answer a question. However, after a long list and all the goofy responses I would think anyone not catching on should get a little laugh. Now I believe GOTBALLZ responded to some of those posts first without seeing most of the joke attached and I do not think that person needed the torment of bloodys post. Now as for what draws the line...I think Bachman hit it right on the head. They should be told cedar is a toxic substrate, do not house multiple together,... and what you noticed was not poked fun at was "my ball has mites, mouth rot, etc." even the ball not eating question should have been explained as it is such a common thing anyone selling should explain that. I think there is a line of reason to what people should know already but nobody should knock them when they come for help and people should help them...I do not like to see people slamming and I answer those posts frequently. And still maintain bachmans posts were funny and not out of line. And I support this after he gave me heat a while ago for a yellow belly question. It was in part my fault because I was here to read the posts but I just didnt since I was not in the market for ivory or yellow bellies. But I think my question could have been answered in 2 words instead of the half page thread. anyway, I still get very knowledgable people asking me that from time to time and I make sure to answer every one as clearly as I can. I have no hard feelings because of that night and still agree 3 am and 12 lagers makes for bad posts. No big deal and people not mature enough to just rub it off I honestly do feel sorry for. Just my opinion.
