Yes! Finally got an adult Black Milk.

weekendherper Oct 30, 2004 12:21 PM

I've had a hard time locating a lone male black milk. They all seem to be sold as pairs/trios. I picked up this '02 at a recent herp show. He measures out at 44".
What a great temperment! It seems more like my pythons or boas when it comes to handling. There is still some slight banding at the tail and a few bands on his belly near his head. There is also still some red "flecks" all over athough you really need to be looking for it and under the right light to see it.

I'm estatic!!!!!

Thanks for looking

i have been reading about black milks. is it true they do fine at room temps in the 70's? (we keep our room temp in the 76ish range, give or take) i'm looking into a snake that doesn't need supplemental heating.

Yes they do best at 70-75, and even do fine in the mid 60's from what I've read. Even though I'm not heating his cage, I had to unstack my cages (he was ontop) because it was around 81. It's now about 76, a few degrees above ambient, and I'm still trying to figure out a way to get it a little lower.

From the moment I saw and read about Black Milks, I knew I had to have one. Like many others I have a "thing" about jet black snakes. This was the first I'd seen in person and it happend to be in shed at the time. You can probably tell from the pics that I wasn't dissapointed after he shed!

that sounds like a snake for me since it don't need sup heating. i see you have a JCP. i have one also. Mine is a 6 foot female. (i was told it was a female when I bought her but never had her sexed by a vet or breeder)
what about your black kingsnake? Do they need a heat sorce also?

my little zoo:
jungle carpet python
2 corns
tangerine honduran milk
albino sonoran gopher
2 anoles
3 fire belly toads

4 cats

I love my JCP! She's an '04 and was sold to me as a JCP, but I think she may have a little diamond in her. Looking forward to her getting 6' .
The Mexican Black neeeds high 70's low 80's (gradient). It's a docile snake with a "smoother" appearance compared to the Black Milk, but wont get any larger than 42-48". As you probably know, Black Milks are among the largest Milks/Kings and males average 66"-76".
