Hello New to the Form and Rats...

PristinePythons Oct 30, 2004 01:42 PM

Hello,

I purchased a prego rat from ben siegels. She dropped 18 babies but 2 ended up dieing. They are approx 2 weeks old now and have white fur showing up. The female was nice when pregro now she bites LOL. How long till these little babies are weaned? I'm careing for a baby boa which will be getting all of them. I may go out and grab a jumbo male and breed her again. I'm in Florida so I may do it outside. Anyways have any Advice? What is the best thing to keep rats in?

They can be weaned at 4 or 5 weeks old. You will know when you realize they are going through water like mad. Breeding outside may or may not work for you. Pests, predators and temperatures are all something to consider. Living in NY it isn't really an option anyway. If your temps are below 50 or above 80 you will chance losing your rats. I suspect you will need some sort of temp regulation. Screening for pests and predators. Maybe someone doing this can help you. You can keep rats in anything from all wire cages to tubs to racks. It will all depend what works for you.
