What do the numbers mean?

caecilianman02 Oct 30, 2004 02:38 PM

Hi there:

I probably sound like a real idiot asking this, but when you are listing the animals in a collection, or for sale or adoption, what do the numbers with decimals placed next to the name of the species refer to? I do a lot of scientific research, but in my signature I have no idea how to go about using these numbers. For example:

1.0 leopard gecko

What would the 1.0 refer to? Everyone seems to know what these numbers mean except me, and I can't get the answer in books or anywhere!

LOL...it's how you tell how many herps you have and what gender they are without writing it out. For example 1.2.3 would mean you have 1 male 2 females and 3 unknown.
