it's so refreshing to see someone
1. keeping a pair of savannahs instead of a lone animal
2. keeping them on a natural substrate
3. giving them a spacious enclosure
4. breeding them (undoubtedly aided by 1-3)
Congratulations again! Keep up the good work.

As you requested here you go

this cage is eight foot long four wide and three high. I keep 2 feet of the substrate down to six inches along the back wall and sloping forward. that borrow is a full two feet deep and is almost actually four feet long then it slopes quickly to the six inches.
They seem to like it, but they frequently claps the burrow then I turn the substrate ad more water turn again and then repile it. They dig the burrow over again from there. It's almost daily work but what monitor isn't rite ?
Thanks again,
JC
nice cage
is that the cage for the food on top?
No actually it's for my water when she wants to climb and exercise a little more. Her cage is just as big sometimes she get's into these fits of just going up and down, so I figured a nice large Ferrett Condo for work out days with a little den box at the bottom. She gets it all out then back to the water pool and the regular spot.

Wow when I just looked at the pic I was like how can 2 savs fit in there but then u said the cage is 8x4x3 just looking at the pic u cant tell its that large. Did you buy or build that cage? what is it made from and how does it open. Im wondering with the glass front going all the way down if it opens from the front how do you keep the dirt from falling out. Thats sounds like a good idea you have dirt in only like half the cage, If i had seen your post before I got rid of my ackie I might still have it. Everyone said its easier keeping ackies because they are small but then all the info I seem to get was that I had to have a 4'cage filled with atleast 2' of dirt which just seem to be too much. I had a sav and kept it on cypress much a couple yrs ago and just recently been hearing people say you have to have a cage full of dirt for a monitor.
Actually I bought the cage from cages by design. Its laminated particle boarde water sealed on the inside with silicon. It opens from the front with the two slide doors, but the dirt is very packed in the front so it never climbs over the lip. Sometimes they get slopy and it does but I just clean out the track regularly. Also although breeding age my savs are small 29 inches for the female and 31 for the male, both full lengh. So the camera is very tricky and does make them look six feet long, but they aren't. I also went for a cage that big because I try and remove him regularly when she lays, but incase I don't or she lays at night I want there to be enough space for her to burrow the eggs and keep them away from him till I get a chance to dig them up.
Anyway best of luck with your design and setup.

those are some lovly savs i also want to see the whole enclosure
is that topsoil for dirt?
Actually,
that is a mix of sand, top soil, and peat moss. I constantly am turning it all the time with a shovel to keep it clean and new looking like that. It does well. The borrow area has a little more sand to it ad some support from wood logs underneath. The seem to like it.
Thanks again for looking.
i have feen trying to find a kind of baged topsoil that work do u happen to know what its called or will just any topsoil work im afraid to buy the stuff at home depot becuase im afriad it might have something toxic in it
Actually that is the simple home depot top soil. It's a white bag I believe it has brown lettering and very simple. No organic or chemical additives at all. I used 3 fifty pound bags 2 fifty pound bags of their beach fine play sand and 1 three cubic foot compressed bag peat moss, yellow bag. All from Home Depot. If you ask someone will be able to help you, just don't ever get any miracle grow or anything like that.
thank u so much i have been in there a few time and there are just so many diff kinds of dirt im gonna give it a try
