Baby Tegu Won't Eat!!! HELP

LOWES99 Oct 30, 2004 06:59 PM

I have a baby argentina black and white tegu that I purchased at the Indy Show. I have three adult reds and they eat fine. I got him home and put him in a ten gallon with some crickets that were dusted. He did not want any. I figured he was exhausted so I waited until the next day. The next day he ate about two but did not chase them. He doesn't have a green head so he is a little older. Does anyone know what to try or how to get him to eat. Thanks Alot Derek
I had him for about a week!

First thing is get him into a bigger cage. Nexit, It may take a couple of days before he eats normale. Also What are your basking temps? I would use 120 degree basking temp.10 gallon tank is two small for him to thermale regulate his body temp. I would go with a 4'-2'-2' at first. Also keep his night temps75 degress. Good luck Russ

Hello,

I guess I would start with a larger enclosure, a ten gallon is not suitable even in a temporary situation. After he gets into a larger living space more than likely his stress levels will come down and his appetite will increase. Best of luck!

Hi,
I had a Blue tegu that wouldn't eat. I took it to the vet. He said they grow so quick. They need all the protein they can get. I feed my live king worms. Now f/t pinky mice. I have a black &white as well. If it won't eat after a week. Take a small amount of iam's cat food. Because it's mushy. spoon feed it. once it starts eating it will eat anything. This is just what worked for me.
