how big cage size/ when to seperate?

geckogrl6 Oct 30, 2004 08:18 PM

Hi, I have 2 corns that used to be the same size as hatchlings in a 20 gal extra tall. One has gotten a lot bigger than the other, and I don't know what their sexes are. the big one might be 24 inches or so, and the little snow is more like 18-20 inches. The little one stopped eating yesterday. Should I seperate them? until when? or is it a brumation thing (even though the big one ate 2 fuzzies?)

Stopped eating yesterday? Skipped a meal, in other words? This time of year even our snakes which are not brumating are more likely to skip a meal or two (or three). Some would also prefer smaller prey if they had the option.

As to when to separate them? Today would be good. Do them both a favor and give them each their own home. That's your best bet.

Seperate today if possible. a 20 gallon long is an appropriate sized tank for the rest of your snakes life. just for your knowledge.

yes, a 20 long per snake. i wouldnt ever house together...but thats just me. i cant justify doing it. too big of a risk for me.

if you know how to properly "pop" a snake you can sex them really young...like after their first shed i want to say? i'm not sure though, never done it.

i was pretty confident my first was a female b/c she had like a bump right after her cloaca. I'm hoping to sex these two the same way in the spring. Thought it was one each when I bought them, but now it's looking like two males.
