A few days ago,6/25, I posted a pic to share, nothing more than eye candy. Mike had placed a couple of wanted post and it appeared that the post went unanswered. I posted a pic of my female bloodred that is also motley. She is one of several projects I am working on and also one of the ones that MAY prove out this year. Along with anery tamaulipan ratsnakes, axanthic brooksi, F2 Okeetees, and reverse okeetees. It has been an awesome breeding season but nothing has hatched out and a couple females are still gravid. Mike contacted me about the female and asked if she is a hypo. I responded yes because I believe she is, at least by definition. I didn't produce her nor did the seller. The seller is still active on Kingsnake but he buys and sells mostly. He does some breeding but I see wanted post and then a short time later he sells the project. I do know that he did not produce her. Marcel saw the post of the eye candy and liked it so much he posted it on that other forum, www.bleep. Well instead of getting the usual positive feedback you would expect from eye candy, some skeptic started making comments that were not positive. He would be really disappointed if one of his bloodreds ended up with that much black. Well, I'm over your disappointment because she's not yours, she's mine and I am completely satisfied with her. Take a look at her pic, isn't that disappointing? Wouldn't you just be bummed if that was your snake?
If you read the books, including the Loves corn snake manual, there are references to the great amount of variance from one specimen to another.Page 106 and 107 show some excellent examples of this with 3 very different snow corns. All three are different and all three are snows. The butter corn on page 107 is a bit different also. If you look at page 114, the two bloodreds are very different but are still bloodreds.
I shared the pic as eye candy and to the couple of people that contacted me I made it clear that it is a project and that most if not all of the questions will be answered when the eggs hatch. I may get bloodreds that are both motley and hypo. I may get hets and if I do, sorry to the skeptics, I still will not consider it a failed project. Hets that will produce offspring that look like that female, not bad in my opinion. The pics are here for you to decide if she is hypo or not. What I see is a reduced amount of black and reduced intensity of black. Looks hypo to me but you can decide for yourself.
One final comment, I guarantee that the few hatchlings that will be offered will be honestly represented. I plan on keeping most of them regardless, homozygous or het, or maybe even some other surprise. I only wanted to share some eye candy not start a pi**ing contest.
