Hey man,
You're gonna want to wait until April/May. They are most highly active during those months in the Mojave. Search in the morning hours, remember the earlier you go out, the better chance you have of getting them while still cold. Chucks normally dive into cracks when they feel threatened. Often they come right back out if you're patient enough and don't scare them too badly. If you're sly enough, you can noose them when they come back out. Sometimes, they go under small, liftable rocks. It always helps to have at least one other friend with you to lift these rocks while you grab your quarry. If you see two Chucks in an area, you're likely to see many more, as they are fairly colonial lizards in the wild.
