How come argus monitors are so damn rare in europe. Anyone know?

snakedk Oct 30, 2004 09:40 PM

I hate living in europe, took me ages to find a good BT and argus monitors are... well dont think i have ever seen one.

They are one of my favorite species (though ive never even seen one) and i would really like one. But bloody impossible to find.

I was offered a wild caught one in bad shape but i want a CB baby or at very least a hatching farm hatched one.

*huffs*
Im just venting but if anyone has any information that might be to my advantage i would greatly appriciate it.

Have you tried asking animal caretakers at zoos? Maybe they will know of any breeders in Europe who have them. I've got an argus, and while he's huffy and puffy, he's not aggressive and he has never tried to bite me. These guys are also pretty strong and tough, meaning they can survive quite a bit, so don't turn one down unless it's in really bad shape (eyes or legs missing). Good luck with your search!

Hi.

They are not so rare as you think, there is actually quite a few keepers here is EU. Though only few breed them. If you send me an email I will help you out.

Don't give up hope. The shop I buy crickets from in Sheffield has had a couple of nice looking ones in over the past year. They usually get bought pretty quickly though.
