kind of a rookie question (but i don't think i am a rookie)

I have had my boy (well at least I think he is a boy) Phil for about three years and is right around 8' long. I never had him popped when he was a hatchling and haven't gone to a vet to have him sexed (no plans of breeding him / her). Here is my question. Don't burms have bone spurs? I have a red-tail male with obvious spurs, and when I check out Phil, there is nothing. Does this mean he is a she? is there a difference? I guess I need education about the difference between the sexes. I am assuming he is average size for his age male or female, unless someone out there in cyberspace has info for me. I would appreciate it. Thanx

sincerely,

Marco

The best way is to probe the snake by someone who knows the technique. Typically, male burms have pronounced cloacal spurs while females are either diminished or completely absent; BUT, I have actually seen males lacking these spurs (rare, but happens). Since this is a pet, I wouldn't worry too much....just keep doing what you are doing and enjoy him or her. Rob
