Python bite

pythonman26 Oct 31, 2004 07:39 AM

This morning I was bit by my 10 ft Olive Python on my wrist. I have had him for a long time and this was the first bite I recieved. It took me quite a while to get him off, it wasnt till I brought him outside and spayed him with the hose that he released his tight grip. It appears there is swelling around the area of the bite. It has not at all decreased or increased since the time of the bite. I am experiencing what I would percieve as the usual amount of pain that one would associate with a snake of his size. I am on the slender side so my question/concern is would a snake bite be able to puncture a vein? I have never heard of it happening but just was wondering if it was possible?

Thanks in advance...

Hi there,

would a snake bite be able to puncture a vein?

Yes, it is possible!
A large python, such as a reticulated , african rock, burmese, amistine or perhaps also an olive python can do so.

Cheers,
Wulf
