What ever happened to WACO?

AdamDispenza Oct 31, 2004 11:12 AM

I was wondering what ever happened to WACO, the Chitra Chitra Softshell turtle breeders? They had a website, but I can't seem to locate it. Does anyone know whats the deal here? Also, what would Chitra Chitra cost me in the states? I'm talking about a CB baby. Glades Herp once had them for $250. Thanks.

They haven't gone anywhere. There website is www.chitrachitra.com. You must buy 20 hatchlings at a time to fill an order to the U.S.

Gladesherp got in one batch about 2 or so years ago and they sat on the shelf for a long time before people bought them all and I think they were selling them for $350/ea. I don't believe anyone has imported any since then.

I have 2 that are about 14 inches now. They are really cool turtles. I can't get enough of watching them eat.

Chitras are awesome, but I haven't seen any available for a couple of years. A few years ago I purchased a 4" Chitra indica (WC, I assume) that seemed to be doing fine for 3-4 months and then suddenly died. It is a mystery to me as I was meticulous with the water quality and never fed him petshop fish. And up until a couple of days before he died, he was eating fine. It's incredible watching these guys feed.....don't blink! If Chitras chitras ever become available again I might not be able to resist.....I hear that C.chitra are hardier than C.indica, but I still wonder if there is some aspect I am overlooking in terms of their husbandry. I have corrosponded with the owner of WACO and he felt pH might be the missing element. Any secrets to your success Batagur?
