separate the crickets from the ants as the ants will eat the crickets. Once you have all the crickets away from the ants, put them in a new container with fresh mixed greens and grains with a slice of orange, carrot or potato for moisture. Change the food every day. Pick out any dead crickets you see every day as well. This should cut down on the smell. Keeping them as clean as possible will cut down on the cost.

I wouldn't keep the crickets outside unless they are in a well covered container with fine screen, fine enought to keep ants from getting in. Make sure they are under something so they are not in direct sunlight or can't get rained on. The temperature has to stay between 70-80F else you can freeze or over heat them. A shed would be best, as long as it doens't get too hot or too cold.
