Fischer Chameleon Swollen Limb any suggestions?

chamellio Oct 31, 2004 02:21 PM

i've noticed that my fischers chameleon has a very swollen front left claw and hence has the innability to use it..im calling the vets tomorrow to see if this could be MBD.. i've only had him about a month and a half and since then i have dossed him up on calcium and minerals.. (regular dusting nothing extreme)

this could also be linked to gout or due to his claw being trapped/crushed.. im pretty sure the environment he is in is pretty safe with only one large basking branch which hasnt moved.. im wondering if there is anything else it could be..

are there any other cases of herps which have been WC having these sort of abnormalities..?

im wondering if i should leave it a day or 2 before i call the vets but i wanna be on the safe side and catch it before anything else happens.. theres no sign of a cut wound so infection is unlikely..any suggestions?..

just to add to that humidity/heat in his viv is all fine hes drinking fine.. but eating i havent seen in a few days although the little hoppers i put in there have dissapeared so i guess hes eating fine.. .

The vet visit is definetly a good idea, get him checked out for as much as possible (parasites, general physical exam, possible blood work) because of the fact that he is WC. The swollen limb is a good excuse to get him checked out! Remember to bring in the freshest possible excrements to the vet's office in a ziplock or something of the sort, many parasites can be detected with a simple fecal exam.

He may have sustained an injury during the importation process, he has been on a long and painful journey and will hopefully make it with your loving care and a quality vet visit!
