Kingsnake for a beginner?

crono_vivi Oct 31, 2004 02:46 PM

Hi, I'm thinking about buying my first snake, and I really like the body shape and coloring of banded Kings(I paticularly like the black and white, but all of the colors appeal to me.) I was just wondering, are Kings more active at night or during the day? And are they a species more to hid most of the time or are they a little more active?

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest if you're a beginner to consider the 'mexican black king'. I'm a beginner and i got a female. she's a good eater and a sweetheart. you can pick her up without any problems. Kingsnakes are nocturnal. I can always tell when my snake is hungry, she comes out during the day. Great beginner snake.

I would suggest a florida king theyre very easy to handle, and mine seems to be out day and nighteven tho its got lots of hiding places

I've found Mexican black kings to be tamer than eastern, California, and desert kings. They seem to enjoy being handed and are less likely to chew on your finger (mistaking it for food) than the other snakes I mentioned.
