It's mating season, baby! My lizard has turned into an orange monster almost overnight. I have tested it and he does not react to men who get near his cage, even when they are strangers. But when I get near, he thrashes and even bites the bars of the cage in an effort to get me! Fun times, I tell you. But he's mainly just territorial like that in his cage.
Breeding season is generally in fall and then spring. This is the first breeding season that Bud has become a wild man. It is his third. Well, what you can expect are changes in coloring, tending towards more orange or red. Also, look for semen deposits around the cage. They kind of look like dried string cheese and they often have two sections, to correspond with the two hemipenes.
Grouchiness sounds about right, also, stealthily stalking something and licking it a lot and reaching out to take a sneaky bite! Watch out if you like to wear green socks. (See my Sock Love picture elsewhere on this forum...) He may flash the hemipenes, become very territorial, and also headbob a lot more.
I am especially noticing restlessness and a reduced appetite. He mainly scatters his food around the cage or lies on it to prevent "enemies" from stealing it. I guess. Who knows what he's thinking. Good luck!
