Boulder

georgio Jun 29, 2003 08:46 PM

Here are a couple pictures of Boulder I took today. He is in the middle of a full body shed. His back has partially shed out minus some of the parts on the deep scar tissue. He looks pretty ugly =). He seems to be getting bigger (those are my thighs in the picture and I'm 6'2" ) but I'm not sure if he's just becoming more obese. My scale only goes up to 1000g so I'll have to swing by my vets office sometime soon to get an updated weight. I also wanted to thank everyone for their support and compliments regarding Boulder, it's really nice to know he's well received. I guess his life has come a long way from when he was burned and then abandoned at a petstore. Hope everyone else's Uro's are all doing well!

i think we all wish we looked as good as boulder on our "ugly" days

love the new pictures, keep us posted.

i didn't know you got him injured!! i'm such a sucker for rescue stories. our little quinn was born with a club foot, but then it never slowed her down, or stopped her from getting knocked up! little slut lol

I noticed boulder has red eyes, is that common in egyptinas or is it just something that boulder has?

I believe most egyptians have orangish colored eyes.

I noticed that in a lot of your pictures boulder is sitting unrestrained outside. How long did it take you to tame him enought to be able to trust him not to run away outside?

Well, for the first few months he couldn't go outside because the sunlight hurt his back. But he really likes walking around so we let him walk around the house. I bought him a human heat pad to put on the floor for when he would get cold. Then we started sitting outside with him for a while but shading his back. He would just lay on me and fall asleep for half an hour. After that we moved on to a towel in the yard and he would lay on me on the towel. I'm not sure if it helped him doing things progressively but for me it was to get confidence that he was okay being outside. Now he just walks around. The only thing I have to watch out for is he eats everything. I figure a little grass and some clovers are fine but not too much. **I would not recommend putting your Uro outside without restraint and have talked to Lindsay Pike about it and he expressed his concern**. But for some reason Boulder just doesn't seem to mind the outdoors. In fact, I have no idea how he would ever survive in the wild because he chases my cat and will just keep on eating if a dog is sniffing at him through his glass cage. One theory of mine is that he is quite old and doesn't care anymore (maybe 20+ years? still working on seeing if he's growing at all) Hmm...that was a bit long winded but I believe I answered your question.

Hi Peter, I think Boulder is adorable. Wilson is going through a shed right now also.
