BP still won't eat.....quick question.

drasticplastic Nov 01, 2004 12:41 AM

My BP hasn't eaten in about 3-4 months....he still seems healthy, he's drinking water, doesn't mind when I handle him...I don't know what to do. Anyway I have a question....when I do try and feed him, he acts like he wants the rat, he'll coil a little and sort of chase him with his head...get really close to him...then when the rat moves he'll shy away. My question is....if he's not hungry since he hasn't eaten in so long...why would he act like he wants to strike? My temps are fine, nothing in the cage has changed....I don't know...I'm lost.

My BP went off feed twice this year for a total of 5 1/2 months (the first time for 3 months and the second time for 2 1/2 months). What I do is offer a smaller rat or rat pup. For mine this usually works. I feed him in a dark room, barely enough light to watch them so that he is not distracted. Then his next meal I feed him a medium sized rat. I can hardly get the rat in the feed box and BAM he's wrapped it up. I'm not sure about your question...maybe his feeding instinct is on the verge of kicking in. Have patience, they can go for a much longer time without eating. (I know you REALLY wanted to hear that)
