Absolutely necessary to hibernate frog????(re: Pixie)

JadeFox Nov 01, 2004 06:12 AM

I keep my pixie frog in a very generous 60% water, 40% land, thermostatically controlled environment and my pixie frog seems extremely happy.

I know in africa they brumate due to drought. I have no plans to breed my frog, and I'm wondering is it necessary to make the frog hibernate?

I have other frogs that do not hibernate because I keep spring/summer conditions in their tanks, and they are very healthy.

Thanks
JadeFox

We have had an adult at work for about 10 years without hibernating it.

Mine do fine without brumating. The only benifit I have seen (unless you want to breed) is occasionally after "waking up" form aestivation they will have an increased feeding response. There is no real reason to though unless you want to breed or the frog goes off feed.
