ALBINO TORTOISE, LIGHTING AND UVB

lbarton Nov 01, 2004 07:37 AM

Can the eyes of an Albino Tortoise (red) handle the intense brightness of todays UVB bulbs put out by Zoo Med and the other suppliers.

I could use the basic Reptisun 5.0, but they are weak in comparrison to the newer "UVB" bulbs.

I was wondering about this too, I know that albino humans are light sensitive (skin), so I wonder how albino torts handle the sun as far as skin and eyes?

you might want to call richard fife (sp?) and ask him about that, do a google search for "ivory tortoise" and you will find his contact info....

The Ivory Tortoise from what I understan is not a true Albino.

True Albinos have red eyes from birth and remain that way. If you compare a Ivory Tortoise to An Albino Tortoise side by side, the differences are clear.
