Soaking

aliaime Nov 01, 2004 11:28 AM

My BP has been soaking for 5 to 6 hours straight at night. Is that a common behavior?

I'd say that's a bit too much. put a smaller water dish in the tank so that it wont encourage soaking so much.

Changing the size of the water bowl will not help the situation. The size of the bowl isn't what encourages a ball to soak. One thing you could check for is mites. Balls soak alot when they have mites. There are other reasons a ball will soak, but this, I think, the most common.

Thank u for the feedback. There is no indication of mites in the water dish. I have by BP for 2 years and never noticed any mites. She started soaking after eating a small mouse. I thought she was going into her "fasting" ritual, but she ate and then started soaking.

It could be that its getting too hot in there for her. Is your heating device hooked up to a thermostat?
