Female not eating or pooping...

zz Nov 01, 2004 11:58 AM

Since Friday, Fiona (5-6 months old @ 16" long...I don't have a weight, but as you can see...she is hefty) has not eaten much (maybe just her "bugs" and a few leaves of greens) or really pooped. She had a small poo on Friday morning and nothing since. She has been digging around a lot too. She is the only dragon I have.

Here is her situation (since I know you will be asking).

55 gallon aquarium
Basking temp: 105-110F
Cool side: 75-80F
Our home has had some crazy ranges because of the weather around here. but I don't believe her temps went too far outside these ranges (give or take 5 degrees)
Substrate: Wheat Bran
UVB lighting: changed every 4 months.

Food:
Amounts change everyday...but usually:
Small handful of "SpringMix, Arugula" mix torn into little pieces (large veins removed)
1 snowpea (torn into pieces)
2 Baby spoons (about a teaspoon)of "veggie-pellet" mixture
Frozen Veggies (carrots, peas, corn, green beans...no lima beans)with extra water with repcal pellets and Juvenile Iguana pellets--only a pinch of this. I make it a couple times a week and scoop it out as needed
10-15 mini crix (canned)
5-10 live silk worms
____________________
Any one of the following: (small pieces of course)
Spaghetti squash
Mango
Grapes
Apple
Papaya
Rasberries
Bluberries
Dandelion flowers (we live in the country and NEVER spray our yard, not even with fertilizer.)

Then to top it off: I sprinkle Reptivite on every other day.

I also give her a bath once a week (which she hates...I think she thinks I am trying to kill her).

That is all I can think of... (although I am sure the experts need to know something else)

Can anyone help me????

Is she currently shedding? Sometimes when in the process of shedding, dragons eat less. Mine used to stop eating for a couple days during the worse of her shedding (ie her body) but after the shed is gone, she would eat like normal.

I would give her a few more days and see if she starts shedding and hopefully eating. If she starts to noticeble look like she is losing weight, then I would take a fecel her her to a vet for examination to rule out parasites.

It is possible that she is beginning to shed...she shed completely a couple of weeks ago (maybe 3 weeks ago).

I hadn't thought about that. (geeeesh), I am soo silly. I don't remember her doing that last time.

I don't know, with your comments on her digging around a lot, there's a possibility that she's looking to brumate. You indicated that the weather has been changing in your area. Anyway, those are my thoughts, keep us posted.

I thought about that too...
Will they do that their first year?

She doesn't even seem hungry. (which is strange...ususally, she is excited to eat).

When I get her out, she still runs around, she seems excited and active. (That is part of my confusion).
