Appalachicola Egg Incubation question. :-}

Sasheena Jun 29, 2003 09:24 PM

Gotta question...

Things have been FRYING here in Arizona. Heat Alerts every day, temps in the 110 - 115 range. I've been incubating my eggs in a rubbermaid, and lately the incubation temps have been in the neighborhood of 84. Is this too warm a temp for the eggs?

Thanks for any advice on this one.

84 is getting a tad warm, but not too bad yet. If it gets much warmer than that, try moving them a little closer to the floor. The temps in most houses can vary 5 or 6 degrees or more between the floor and the ceiling.

That temp is alright in fact mine cooked at that most of the time but 82 is a little more ideal. I know the Loves incubate their eggs in their snake room in Florida and temps can climb in to the high 80's with no adverse effects. Its when you get above 89-90 and below 76 or so that you can run into problems.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on them to make sure the temps don't get too high. With young people in the house who have ALREADY messed with the eggs and turned them, having them lower isn't a prime option, but if need be I'll figure something out. (it's the pitts having a family of five live in a two bedroom one bath house shared with 30 snakes and 200 mice!)
