I would like to know how young people have bred Jungle corns. I read somewhere someone did it at 18 months. I have a male jungle born in April that I would love to breed this coming Spring, but I am not holding my breath. I also have a march baby tangerine honduran I want to breed this spring, again, not holding my breath.

So what is everyone planning to breed this coming spring? My definate plans are male amel corn x albino cal king (she was sold to me as a lavender, not sure if she is). I have a coastal cal king het amel I'd like to breed to my honduran eventually, if not this spring then next. If the honduran isnt big enough I'll probably breed her to the corn again, they had some pretty babies last year. I have a normal corn het amel planned for the same honduran, if he isnt big enough she wont get bred, I dont need any pure corns, lol. Same with my anery corn, I would like to breed her to my amel jungle male. I also now have an apricot pueblan male, but due to a bad deal I have no female to trick him with. (so if anyone is selling one, I'd be interested)
I think that's about it. Oh and bearded dragons, lol.

Depending on how much size she puts on, my '04 Jurassic female might be ready to go in '06... if she is, I'll just cross her to my '03 jurassic male.

My Jurassic male is very slow growing, so next year I am not sure he will have what it takes to try to breed a few of my females. His potential mates for '06 (and possibly next year, depending on what he wants to do)

His possible mates:
Pyro Pyro (but she'll probably go with my Pyro male)
Albino Aberrant Cal King
Jurassic Milk

Other possibilities this coming year:

My Splendida (Desert King) is still "gender unknown"... some days I think he is a male and some days I think he's a female. Latest inspection I noted he actually has a slight increase in girth just below the vent, so this leads me to believe he is a male. If so I will probably put him to two aberrant banded cal kings who have never been bred. Should make for some zany critters.

I might try my Jurassic male on a Anery Corn, and/or a striped corn, see if he is interested in either of them.

Other than those possibilities my
specific plans for next year:

High White Cal King x Chocolate & Lemon Cal King
High White Cal King x Desert Banded Cal King
Aberrant BAnded Cal King x Newport Phase Cal King
Aberrant Banded Cal King x Albino Aberrant Cal King
Hurricane Snow Motley Corn x Normal Het Amel, Motley, Anery Corn
Striped Normal het Amel, het Anery Corn x Anery Striped
Rootbeer Corn x Creamsicle Corn
Desert King (splendida) x Aberrant Banded Cal King
Desert King (Splendida) x Aberrant Banded Cal King

And if I can FIND an adult male Apalachicola, I'll cross him to my two female apalachicolas

Those are the extent of my plans for the spring, and we'll see exactly what happens.

Some of my future projects include a couple of het hypo eastern/florida integrades.... might be interesting to cross with my pure floridana, or with my Apalachicola.

Because my male cali king died ( the producer of my jungles) i'm going to look for another breeder. Choices are limited here.
1 he has to be old enough to be sexualy mature
2 can't cost a bloody fortune lol

Two in line are: a cali abberant albino , not so big.
and a normal cali with very intense yellow hetero for albino.
But he is huge!! ( maybe to huge to breed to my females corns)

Anybody here have experience in using the male from a lampro instead of the other way around???

Also on the look for a young or a yearling pueblan or sinaloaen hybrid to mix in my blood lines later on.

I also have plans to add the abberant and striped gene in my lines and of course the albinos. I prefer most of the normal wild colours but the albinos sell for a lot more here and some are realy fantastic too. As for now all my jungles are albino hetero allready.

I believe Newport is a locality in California... My newport was bred from a striped and a banded pair (or from their offspring), producing a broken stripe. One of her characteristics is that she is HUMONGOUS. She was easily breedable by 18 months of age, and her offspring are frequently 15 inches right out of the shell. She's only had two clutches. Her first clutch was 8 eggs, all 8 hatched, and one died of umbilical complications. Her second clutch was 12 eggs... 2 died early, 1 was dead in egg at hatching, the remaining 9 were fine. One was wrapped in its umbilical and only six inches long, but was a feisty eater. SAdly that baby snake came to a terrible end..... believe it or not, one of our cats threw the snake in the trash. She likes to bat around the lightweight hatchling containers, and I keep them safe unless I'm taking them out to feed or clean or water... she must have knocked it into the trash and I never noted, and voila, no snake! The babies are quite cute... here's my multi-pic for this year's batch:

Yeah #1 there, Puny, is one of my favorites... she was in an egg that was more than 70% shriveled for the last two thirds of incubation. Everyone, including myself, thought she would not survive. When I cut the egg open, I saw only egg-junk inside and was about to completely give up, when a little puny head poked and out flicked a tongue at me! Half size! She hung out absorbing her yolk for a few days and then slithered out! Amazing. She was slow to start on food too, but once she got the hang of it, she liked the idea. Yesterday she ate her first fuzzy. Still looking for a home for her and the others. Most of my cal kings I sell fairly cheap to the local high school students (with parental permission of course). It's sort of nice having a captive audience not yet set in their ways regarding snakes!

(I'm a HS Teacher)

Here's a pic of the papa snake... (can't remember what females are in the picture... until I post the picture)

In the previous picture is Bishop, the papa of the cal kings I was mentioning. The two other snakes in the pic are his potential mates for next year. The black and white one double clutched... but I didn't see more than one half of one baby of hers... her first clutch, 15 eggs, all died for some reason (about 2 weeks into incubation).. and she escaped right as she was due to lay her second clutch.... and returned when she had laid the eggs. Approximately sixty days later the feral cats brought a half of a hatchling to our back door..newly hatched, aberrant, b&w cal king hatchling.

I really like those babies! That's too bad about your snake laying eggs while out. I remember a post you had a while back about all the bad luck in your clutches, whew! Hopefully this spring will be better for you!

I was very distressed this last year, and was very close to selling all my corns ... and still may do so, keeping only one or two pairs. It was very distressing all those many many deformed babies. Altogether I had 35 eggs and all of them had a deformed baby inside. Luckily my 10 cal king eggs produced 9 healthy babies. And of the 35 deformed corns, I did save out 8 of them to try to raise, not too badly deformed.... and three did survive and are growing well. In at least one case, probably two cases there are no apparant deformities any more.... perhaps the kinks in the spine, bulging foreheads, etc have disappeared with time? In any case I do have 1.2 baby corns from this year's breeding, 1 reverse okeetee, one okeetee, and one striped het anery, poss. het amelanistic.

Funny, I had a clutch of beardies, and as they poked their heads out I'd move them to a paper towel because a lot of them were getting completely caked with vermiculite, well the last two eggs got too dry, one hadnt pipped and the other with the head out. The eggshell dried rock hard aroung this little baby. I panicked and cut the shell of the pipped one only to find he hadnt absorbed his yolk, so I panicked again. I moistened everything and let nature take its course. He came out with his eyes pasted shut for a few days. I actually thought he had no eyes and was force feeding him. He was itty bitty for a long time, so cute. Long story short the little dude is like 500 grams now. Its really amazing what baby reptiles can go through and survive!!
So anyways, I am kinda confused about the Newport are they a combination of the striped and banded that can be reproduced every time? I'm still learning about cal king genetics anyways, it is all so confusing to me. I understand Corn genetics, that's pretty straight-forward.

>>So anyways, I am kinda confused about the Newport are they a combination of the striped and banded that can be reproduced every time?

Remember, I'm no expert on these, I got my one Newport Cal King from a breeder. The Newport is a locale... snakes from that locale tend to hatch larger, grow faster, and be very solid, thick robust snakes. They are california kings, but from what I can tell they tend to be a super black brown color, or a dark brown black color with pale yellow markings. In that locale, I believe, there are both banded and striped snakes. When banded and striped are combined you can get a variety of patterns... from full banded to full striped to combinations of the two... banding and striping in cal kings is NOT a simple recessive or dominant situation. One is 'more dominant' over the other, but I can never remember which one is which. I've bred my newport to my high white cal king twice. The first clutch had most of the babies with a large percentage of white, only one was closer to a wild-type.. and that baby was banded on half the body, striped on a quarter, and aberrant on a quarter. The second clutch she had had a lot of dark babies with white "sidewalls" and lots of dots and or squiggles. Very very variable. Next year I'll be crossing my Newport with my high-white's clutch mate who is a very dark aberrant banded cal king... here's a picture of him and his girls for this coming year:

In the previous post, the snake in the upper left corner is Jester, the brother to my high white cal king. He hasn't been bred thus far. IN the lower left is the Newport Cal King with her "white sidewalls" and in the right of the picture is one of my aberrant banana cal kings. I've actually changed my mind about that pairing... I'm planning on crossing the female on the right with my splendida, who I have lately decided must be a male:

Hey,
I think you can use any female milk snake to "trick" your aprioct male.

Well, that would be nice if that's possible! Has anyone else done this?
