These new cages are frustrating....

-ryan- Nov 01, 2004 07:01 PM

mostly because I haven't been able to get started on them yet. I've been planning them out since summer, and I got the first load of wood at least a month ago, and now it's been so hard to find a good day that both me and the guy helping me with it (a really good woodworker) can do it. We think next week will be a good week to get started, but I just wish we could have found time earlier. By the time we complete the basic constructure, allow the stain to cure, and get the lights and glass doors (framed and hinged) installed, my bearded dragon and my uro will probably both be in brumation. I'm not sure if that would make the switch easier or harder for them. I mean, on one hand, it's sort of disrupting their brumation, but on the other, if I am careful not to disturb them too much switching them over, and keep all of the furnishings from their current cages, they could probably just continue with brumation, giving me time to fumble around with the basking spots to get them just right.

Well I think that if you get transfer your uro and your bearded dragon at night while they are sleeping, then you shouldn't have a problem.

My brother's Bearded Draco is better at being handled if you pick her up before bask lights go on in the morning. She mainly stays asleep. So if you pick yours up while they are sleeping and know where to set them in the new tank (probably be a good idea to set them in the general area they were sitting at in their old tank) then everything should be fine. Same with the uro, just pick her/him up during sleep time and put them in the exact same spot in the new terrarium. All while lights are out. This way they won't wake up so it coulnd't disturb them.

Also it might be a good idea to take a little of their old terrarium substrate and put it in their new terrarium so it "smells" like home.
