Leo not growing

tim5580 Nov 01, 2004 09:11 PM

My leo eats about 8 silkworms a day now, 1/2 long or so. It used to eat 5 crickets and a mealworm or two. It always leaves one or two food items in the tank so I am guessing it is eating its fill. It looks healthy and happy but it's tail is only kinda bulgy in the middle, not like the ones I see on here where it's tail is bigger than the body of the leo. I've had it since the middle of September and it seems to be the same size. Should there be a noticable change in it's size? He is only about 5 1/2 inches long or so tip to tip.
I know you'll say go get a fecal and I'd go get a poop exam done but I am working about 6 hours a week so that is out of the question until hours pick up or I get some unemployment compensation.

You think 5 1/2 inches too little to sex? I know each one is a little different but I looked really hard at its "area" and I saw no V dots or bulges.

one vet diagnosed it with MBD (low calcium) are you dusting those silkworms, or do you have a dish? Also vet said get a UVB (flourescent bulb) and that really helped. Also, with the time of year, it is normal for growth to slow some. Give it another month or so, evaluate your calcium methods. If that doesn't help, take it in. My male started to show pores when I bought him at 20g, but you've got to look really close and know what you're looking for. His bulges showed up around 35g

I dust the silkworms with Leopard Gecko Dust vitamins daily, and I have a small dish of pure calcium in his tank all the time. It looks like he eats it or walks through it, because you can tell it looks like something was in it. I have never seen him do either though. I plan on taking it and some poop to a vet when I get some money. I guess I'll just wait in sexing it.

putting some of the dust on your fingertip, he might lick it off that way at lease you know he gets some, but if you're dusting he should e OK.
