Right now I keep 5 nearly 2 year old wood turtles, 5 yearling spotteds, 1 eastern box, and 2 ornate boxes (that won't breed for me!). Eventually I plan on breeding the woods and spotteds but that won't be for another 5-4 years, at least. I really want to breed something and I've been toying with the idea of purchasing some Common Musk turtles. They seem like the best choice. The adults are cheap, small, and (so I've heard) easy to maintain and breed in captivity. Though there are some cons. I really don't like buying wild caught animals. Are captive bred adult musks usually available? I was thinking probably not. Also what would I do with the offspring? Would it be safe to let them go? (I live near their range) Or is there much of a demand if I tried to sell them? And as for an enclosure, I was thinking of keeping them outside in a kitty pool in the summer and during the winter hibernating them for 2-3 months and keeping them in a 50 gal. rubbermaid for the other 4-5 months of winter (yeah northern michigan winters are really long). Could I get away with no filter if I fed them in a seperate container and made frequent water changes? Hmm... any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Andrew
