Question About Rescue & Breeding Weight

CJBianco Nov 02, 2004 08:27 AM

Hello Everyone,

Here's another breeding/weight question...with a twist.

I've got a 3 - 4 year old female, that was way starved when I got her. Now, I was originally told that I should feed her one mouse every 2 - 4 weeks. (Damn salespeople!) I did this for almost two years. (Hey! I didn't know any better!) Anyway...she's been feeding like mad since I started stuffing her belly almost twice a week. She just won't stop eating. She's doubled her weight in a single month! She's now 800 grams and growing super fast.

So here's my question...at the rate she's growing, she'll probably hit close to 1200 grams (where she should've been in the first place) by year's end. If so, would it be safe to breed her? I mean...she's growing so fast, I'm not sure if her sexual parts are already developed (remember...she's 3 - 4 years old) and she was just way skinny, or if her sexual parts ONLY develop when she hits a certain weight.

Can anyone explain this to me?

Thanks,
Chris

I would def feed her for another year before attempting to breed.

That's what I had originally planned on. I'll stick with the plan. Thanks. =)

I second that. She should be very healthy and at least 1500 grams.

more like 5 or 6 pounds......

1000 grams is 2.2 pounds......1200 grams is what? around 3 pounds.not that big.......

.....when they are big enough....you'll know it........(I don't weigh snakes).......

.....and yes...her "female parts" didn't develop as fast as normal...........she was stunted........

....make sure she's BIG.......

ever see a ball python egg? ,,,,,a big one...not a small one ....they have different sized eggs......(BIGGER is better.)....

......let her wait......why not.........

Thanx...good luck./..........
