Egyptian Cobra (naja haje)

admathe Nov 02, 2004 09:18 AM

I'm doing a research project for school and need to know the components of the venom for the egyptian cobra (enzymes, thier effects, etc). I have researched it, and haven't found much. Could anyone here help me?

Thanks!
Mandy

Hi Mandy:

A few ideas come to mind...

Books:

Venomous Snakes by Dr. Sherman Minton
Snake Venom Poisioning by Dr. Findlay Russell

Journals: Toxicon

Researchers:

Dr. Byran G. Fry
http://www.kingsnake.com/toxinology/

Dr Fry frequents this site and is always very helpful with venom/snake questions. "He's the man" when is comes to your kind of question.

Kentucky Reptile Zoo
http://www.geocities.com/kentuckyreptilezoo/content.htm

Jim & Kristen's Lab at the Zoo is one of the few professional labs in the USA that collects venom from more than 100 species for medical research.

Good Luck

You can take the animal out of the jungle but you can never take the jungle out of the animal.
