Scale discoloration

canadiangirl Nov 02, 2004 09:30 AM

I have a 4 year old 50/50 california king. She's had no health problems so far (crossing my fingers) but the other day I noticed that one of her scales has turned brown and it seems to be dried out, very flaky to the touch. It doesn't seem to bother her, but I have no idea if it's normal. I've read the messages posted here and as far as I could tell no one else has posted about this problem, and I can't find anything about it on care sheets. If you could tell me if it's something to show to a vet or if it's nomal, I'd appreciate it!

My kingsnake has this problem too. I took her to the vet last night about a feeding problem, and she didn't seem too concerned about the three or four scales that had turned brown. She thinks it might just be because she hasn't shed in a long time (due to the feeding problem). She didn't notice any parasite or infection on the scales. Maybe just waiting until your snake sheds again will solve the problem?
