Wyoming/Idaho/Colorado/Utah herping!?

terrylove Jun 29, 2003 10:24 PM

I'm planning my first herping oriented trip and wanted to know where I should go. I live in SW Wyoming and there aren't many herps here other than fence lizards. I've heard people I work with tell stories about running into snakes all the time up in Idaho and also in Colorado. Does anyone have information on locations to go find some herps. I'm interested in snakes especially. Thank you so much for any info.

I live in Utah, and there are some great spots around here. What are you looking for mainly. The road I-30 that runs up on the north border between Id and Ut is good. There you should be able to find 5-6 species of snake. There are also alot of lizards in the area as well. Southern UT in St.George area has alot of cool herps if you want to travel that far.
Good herping,.

I'm would like to find and photograph the larger snake species including rattlesnakes, rat snakes, water snakes... anything. The smaller species like grass, garter and ringneck snakes I'm less interested in finding, but would still be neat. Thanks for the information. I'll take a trip out that way looking around highway 30.
