Sterile BP??????

sam_i_am Nov 02, 2004 10:38 AM

I have been talking to someone local about their snake they can't keep anymore. First she didn't know what the sex was. A guy came and looked at him (full grown ball) and popped him. She says the hemipenes were all shriveled up and fell out. Is this possible, or is it more likely that maybe it was something else???

Yeah; sperm plugs are weird-looking, yellowy, shriveled things. Maybe some sperm plugs fell out, and the vet mistook them as hemipenes?
Doesn't sound like a competent vet to me! If I, a relatively new hobbyist, know that and the vet does not; I would worry.

It wasn't a vet that said that. I have been talking to a woman who placed an ad for her BP. She can't keep him anymore. She didn't know the sex of it. A guy came to look at him and popped him and that fell out. The guy told her that it was the hemipenes. So, now she is advertising that he is sterile. I just didn't think it sounded right, so I posted here. I don't know why I didn't think about the sperm plug. That seems like the obvious reason. Thanks again for all of your posts!
