Building an Incubator from an Igloo Cooler

JJuchems Nov 02, 2004 11:14 AM

I want to build an incubator out of an Igloo family 25qt Ice Chest/cooler. Does anyone know or have any tips on separating the liner from the hard outer shell?

I'm using an Igloo as an incubator. I already had two Hovabators. I took the heating elements out and mounted them in the bottom of the ice chest. They are controlled by a Helix thermostat. It keeps the temps very stable.

Mount a ceramic light fixtue to the inside lid and run the wire through a small hole drilled at the top. Wire the end to a standard 2 prong plug adapter. You should now have a light fixture mounted in the center of the inside lid with a line cord running from it through a small hole to the outside of the coler lid.

Get yourself an ESU thermostat for about $15-$20 and secure it to the top of the cooler lid. Drill another small hole and run the temp probe down through that to mount midway in the cooler.

Plug the light fixture cord into the ESU thermostat and screw a red colored light bulb into the fixture. Set the thermostat to the desired temp for your eggs and plug it into your wall outlet.

Primitive but it works great.
