New RAT RACK I love this thing...

neilgolli Nov 02, 2004 12:32 PM

I love this thing..... Designed it and put it together in a day, and I've just got back from a nice 4 day weekend scuba diving trip (WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT FEEDING AND WATERING RATS) and came home to 3 new litters...... The increased serface area also greetly reduced overal odor compared to my old set up......

What kind of tubes are those? What is the size of the tubes and about what is the cost of the tubes. I used to have lots of tubes in a rack a few years ago but now they have changed the tubs so I am looking for a tub to use again. I bought some cement mixing tubes but the tubes vary alot in the edges of the tub where you would slide them in a rack and some of the tubs are not flat on top to they won't work. Just trying to get some ideas.

the 8 breeding tubs are sterilite 1856 28 quart tubs from super wallmart, cost is $4 the larger botton tub is a 90 quart sterilite 1865, cost $10. So far they are working great. I have had rats crew threw these tubs in the past when I drilled air holes in them, but they seem fine with the screen top and no holes.

Put casters (wheels) at bottom and you will love it even more!

You say that the rats haven't chewed any holes in the tubs but if there is an edge to get those teeth on, they will chew through it. Jumbo litter pans work well....
22.25" x 16.75" x 6.75"
Keep that door closed just in case.

I got basic idea's from this site http://www.dwightgood.com/snakes/ratrack.htm
I used 2 x 2's for the 4 legs, and then 1 x 2's for the rest, if you like I will take some closer pic's of the individual layers so that you can see how the trays slide in and out, let me know....

I checked that page! i was gonna build it like that, but i don't know how the feeder tray works. So i was planning to improvise once i had it build.
How did you made the watering system?

You might want to run the water tubing through the food container on the bottom holding unit...if it remains exposed like it is now, it will get chewed through and flood the tub.
