Does my leo look healthy?

duckofdomination Nov 02, 2004 03:13 PM

He/she has been eating less in the past week and I got a little worried. I reasently got a ceramic bulb for his tank because it was too cold, Could that be the reason because he isnt used to the exess heat? Also Im not sure if you can tell from these pictures but can you estimate his age? He recently developed some small yellow spots/bumps on his tail. They arent to big but I was just wondering if this is normal? Thanks for all your help!

whats the temp in your tank? my geckos have a ceramic light and they love it, so I don't think that's your problem unless your hot side is too hot. are you placing the food on the warm or cold side. I have my mealies on the warm side but under the shaded area of my cage (someone made a post about hides today and I replied with a pic of my tank, so you can see an example there) I think they like hunting on the warm side, but that's just me (doesn't warm temp make it easier for them to digest) also are you using a black light, i find my geckos HATE blacklights and won't come out

The bumps look normal to me. Your leo is just getting older and showing more color. My female is 2 years old, and still has more orange and yellow color developing in her tail everytime she sheds! So don't worry, your leo looks healthy. It maybe be the colder weather outside that's causing your leo to eat less. My leos have the same temp in their tank all year long, but they always seem to sense when it's winter! During the cooler weather they tend to eat a little less. Hope that helps you.

She looks fine to me.

Age is a hard one since no one knows its previous conditions which could stunt its growth but i'll go out on a limb and say juvie still
in the 6-9 month range

if you're worried about the temp, get a thermometer and actually check the temps to be 100% sure

I do have a thermometer, One on each side. I just reasently got a dimmer to control the ceramic bulb. Usually now it is about 93 degreese F in the day and about 83 at night. Could he also be stressed because of all the temperature changes he has been going through? For about a week he was in a tank that was about 70 degreese F all the time, Then I got the ceramic bulb which brought it all the way up to 105 and now it is finnally at about the right temperature. Im still not sure exactly how old he/she is so Im not sure if its a male or a female. All I know is that I got it at PetCo on september 3rd this year and he/she was TINNEY!

Here is a pic of his/hers first day home:

Thanks for all your help!

If it was too hot at one point he/she might get alittle stressed, however its really diffcult to tell exactly why, if only they could talk eh?

In the mean time, as long as its eating you'll do ok. For age that is another hard questions however you are right, it is very small i wouldn't guess anything older than 4 months

He/she looks almost big enough to sex to me. You might wanna look into it.

Ok, Thanks for the info! I have been checking him/her everyday even though I know that they wouldnt mature in 24 hours. I am hoping that it is a female because I would like to house it with another female (that I am getting at a show on the 21st) I will quarrentine and everything for 3 months and then, If mr./ms. Crowley (my current leo) turns out to be a female, They will be 'room mates' Mr./ms. Crowley Is currently housed alone in a 20 gallon long with three hides all to him/her self!
