Something wrong with my veiled eye!! Pls HELP!!!

SkynetT800 Nov 02, 2004 04:55 PM

My male veiled is about 2 years old and has been perfect so far. Now about 3 weeks ago his left eye got a little crusty and he couldnt see out of it, but then he shed like the next day. Now like 2 weeks ago the same thing happened to his right eye - but that was 2 weeks ago and he hasnt shed. Its like slightly white and gets crusty sometimes, and he is always scratching at it. if i wet it down it goes back to normal - but then a day later its crusty again. His eye openeing is smaller then normal and it looks like its producing some fluid. I was wondering if this sounds like an infection or just a very slow shed.
thankx 4 your input!

It sounds like a slow shed to me, I would increase the humidity and after a few days he should shed his eye... then continue with the higher humidity

my panther had this in her left eye for a fwe weeks. I misted her well many times during the day. one day a piece of shed seemed to come out of her eye. now she doesn't have any problems with it...

it may be shed, but it sounds like there is irritation going on and if it is producing fluid he may now has an infection. I would wash it gently (if you can) with warm water. Call your vet and ask if he can suggest an OTC anti-bacterial med. I wouldn't ignore it until you are sure it is nothing serious.
