Rat cut me while feeding

kongsnake Nov 02, 2004 06:23 PM

While feeding my ball, he decided to strike while still on my arm (won't happen again). Anyway, I let him kill the rat while consrticting on my arm. When he released (I pulled him off my arm after the kill), I noticed areas on my hand where the rat had broke my skin with her rear claws. I scrubbed well and applied hydrogen peroxide. Is there anything I should be worried about or should be watching for?

Thx

quit feeding while holding rats and or snakes.....

I do it....but you will get bitten and all...

anyways......you should live....if it turns red and itches...clean it again...if it swells..you are allergic to something ....

.....had a tetanus shot lately?.....

with all the cuts, bites, claws, rusty wire .....we need to be updated.........

Not itching, but is red. I use a rubbermaid tub for feeding and usually just set him in there once the rat settles down (I stay and make sure that he will strike). But he was really "clingy" today. Squeezed my hand so much that it hurt where my ring is and cut off circulation! I didn't wash my hands after getting the rat, so maybe i smelled "ratty"?

With any wound-clean with hydrogen peroxide, apply antibiotic ointment, and put a bandaid on it. This will help prevent infection.
