Python bite concerns!

pythonman26 Nov 02, 2004 06:27 PM

I was bitten Sunday by my 9ft male Aussie Olive python. I am a slender guy and he tagged me right on my wrist. Afterwards there was a bit of swelling but it subsised. My arm is sore, but nothing severe just the normal pain I would associate with being bit by a large snake. However the surrounding area by the bite is red, purple, almost the same colors that you see a day or two after getting blood taken.

I am going to the doctor tomorrow morning and all honesty I feel 100% fine but is there any immediate concerns? I would imagine if he severly damaged my vein i would have known by now? Any thoughts or maybe things I should keep an eye out for till tomorrow would be appreciated!

Thanks,

AP

Your lucky, hitting that area on your wrist can cause you to bleed to death in several minutes. Aside from that, snakes mouths are very clean, and since they are not mammals they do not carry diseases such as rabies. The "puffyness" could be cause by bruising, but I cannot be certain. If it's not a bruise, it's also possible that it is infected, which is an ugly ordeal.

Long as you didnt bleed to death
You should be fine. AMybe some slight iritation and bruising. You will have some nice teeth marks to show people for a few days. lol
Make sure you are cleaning the area well, and maybe even use some peroxide to make sure there is no infection. But snakes mouths are clean. So you shouldnt have to worry. I am bitten at least 100 times a year by many many many snake species (all non venomous) including my Green Conda. Never have a problem. Just some fansy teeth marks to show off. heheh And of course alot of blood.
I'm sure you'll be fine.

You put her on a diet huh? Well, I can say then, that DOES make them quite angry. I found that out when I made Siren go without for ONE week longer than usual. Uaually she is just fine with being held. But after making her go 3 weeks instead of two she let me know just how she felt about that and didnt stop biting till I fed her again. Typical female. lol

Bleed to death?? You mean total arterial bleeding??
A lateral gash maybe...but a snakebite?
Puffiness from bruising? Not from tissue damage? Not from lymphatic fluids leaking into the surrounding tissue?
This one was actually funny!!
Bleed to death in minutes...wow!
Actually...it's best if a puncture wound bleeds, the flow of blood will, or could, or should move any bacteria out of the damaged skin.
Most times, unless an animal bite is severe, it is not sutured, just so it can bleed. And a healthy dose of a/b is given.
Unless you do some real damage, and I'm talking major major damage. You wont bleed to death.
Chances are you will survive that snakebite, and many more over the years.
Bleed to death...lol

Since bite marks can fall under the category of puncture wounds, it's a good idea to keep your tetanus inoculation up to date.

in your skin.....

snake teeth are tiny and break off easily in the skin and could cause infection.....

out of curiousity....did it bite you....or grab and wrap?

i had been grabbed and wrapped by a 10 foot burm and needed a squirt of alcohol to get her off of me lol

left my hand stiff (she got me on my thumb base and hand) and couldnt work for 3 days because of it

good luck either way
