ideas for floats needed for water turtle to get out of water....

carl3 Nov 02, 2004 06:42 PM

I have a yearling terrapin and I just set him up in a new aquarium. I'd like to find something new to accomodate him so he can get out of the water completely. His old float was cork bark and it just sinks now when he tries to get on it.

I realize its important for him to get out of the water to completely dry off and bask BUT I cannot find any quality floats at any petstores in my area. I don't want to use anything with suction cups. Any ideas would be apprecieated, or direction to a herp supply company that has a variety of accessories to choose from. Thanks in advance for your help.

Jason

You could get some more cork bark and get it big enough to wedge between the tank walls so it can't sink again. I don't have any web sites for you but you can do a Google search with the words cork bark and you will find something.

Try PVC pipe with the appropriate connectors. Just make sure you give plenty of time for the PVC adhesive to cure. I use PVC in my turtle tank, tho not for a basking area. I also use PVC pipe to make turtle traps float. You can make your design in various shapes using elbows and tees.
