How about some Trans Pecos pics?

Kevin Saunders Nov 02, 2004 07:09 PM

I've been looking into them lately and if I were to get another snake, they'd be at the top of my list. I like the blondes and axanthics, but I think nice high-contrast normals are probably my favorites. Anyway, I'd love to see some pics if anybody feels like sharing.

This is just icing on the cake. You've got all kinds of great colubrids, thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot Kevin. I will be glad in the next couple years or so when all these trans pecos I have been caring for so long will finally be ready to breed. Randy W.

This pair are from parents that have a very high orange background color which I find it hard to believe that these guys are going to get that color but I'll see. Randy W

I have since actually sold this male but you can see that he is another color blond (lighter). Randy W.

This is an old picture as this pair will be breeding age this coming year finally.

Very nice silver.I have a question.Would humidity levels around 60-75 % be to much for a trans peco?We have high humidtity here most of the time with the exception of winter.Ive read several posts about them not thriving well under those conditions. If you dont mind me asking what levels are yours kept at?Thanks Paul.

RandyWhittington Nov 03, 2004 11:13 PM

Hey Paul. I would think around 75% would be on the too humid side.
I dont actually check the humidity in my cages but depending on what time of year it is, my heat or ac is on at most any given time so it keeps the room pretty dry. All my snakes have heat tape on one side. I make sure to keep the trans pecos well ventilated and I give them a VERY small water bowl that is stable that wont tip over. Their water bowl is only big enough for drinking as they dont need to soak to shed. Some people only give them water once a week but I choose to just give them a very small water bowl on the far end from their heat tape. Randy W.

Randy,
Those are absolutely stunning snakes.
Beautiful.
Damn, now I have another species to move to the top of my must have list.
White Oaks Grey rats have moved up there and I have always been interested in Trans Pecos. Now, after seeing your photographs it makes it almost impossible NOT to look into getting a couple.
Gee thanks...LOL

Here's a big male I photographed near Pandale one night. He wasn't bluffing either.

Got this girl at the Hamburg Pa. show last year. She is a total "pig" at feeding time. She would not hold still for the pic either!
