How much would I spend...

LordOfTheLizards Nov 02, 2004 07:51 PM

On food a month for a 2 month dragon, 3 moth all the way to full grown? average

I heard they can eat as many as 50! can I give them a fixed amount of food to eat while they will still be healthy? Would thye just take less time to grow?

It's just I can't afford 50 crickets (or silkies which I would use as a staple) a day!

My 11 week old eats 70 crickets a day. I order them 1000 at a time for $16 from wormman.com I would have to say if you can't afford the 50 a day then I'd wait to get one. Baby beardies need lots of protein the first year of life.

Would an older bearded dragon eat more or less than that? I heard they needed less crickets in their diet and could go with just more greens.

Little guys eat a ton of crickets because they are growing and also because they eat such small crickets. My little 15 inch girl wont do 50 crickets a day heck she wont do 20 or even 10. i suppliment her with pellet food and greens when she is not in a cricket mood. some days she gobbles them all up like crazy and then some days like today she wants nothing to do with them. So instead she chomps down on her dry food. I would prefer her to eat the crickets because its not so darn noisey. Hearing her munch down on dry pellets drives me nuts hearing it. LOL like dragging nails on a chalk board. But i have to give her what she wants. some days she is a cricket girl and somedays she aint. Also at 50 crickets a day even if its only 20 crickets a day its wise to buy online. Would you rather pay a few cents a cricket or like 10 cents for at a petstore? you do the math. say you fead your dragon 1000 crickets in a month at .10cencts that petstore would charge you it would cost you 100 dollars or you could just pay 16 to 20 dollars for them online. some places online are cheaper and some cost more. some include shipping and some dont. also whats good about online is you never have to worry about going to the petstore and worrying that they dont have them in stock like it use to happen to me when i would get crickets from petco. also once you get use to how many crickets your dragon or dragons can eat in a month you can set up a regular delivery for you crickets so you wont ever have to worry about forgetting to order.
I still dont know how you people get your dragons to eat so much though. mine could never eat that many and she is a little porker.lol
