Well what do ya guys think. Should i let my geckos play together because ive physically had him for 2-3 weeks now. and i havnt noticed a darn thing wrong with him. He is pooping regularly, eating very well, 60 grams, no signs of parasites or any other disease. Also, he has been at a petstore ( i know the owner ) for 3 months and he has been taken good care of. Then i didnt notice anything wrong, neither did my friend. So what you guys think, i can let them play together. Also in the petstore he was alone in his own cage, so that is basically quarantine right?

quaratine should be one month MINIMUM. Also, just because he was by himself in the store, I don't know. Really comes down to how well you trust the owner vs. how prepared you are for something bad to show up later.

I would say it MIGHT be ok but why take the chance. Many illnesses take months to surface, I believe I even read somewhere of someone quarantening for almost a year. Are you sure he doesn't have any parasites or diseases? The only way you could be sure is if you had a fecal done. I would not consider him being alone in a tank at the pet store quarantine AT ALL. Many other animals may carry parasites or diseases that do not effect them but can still transfer to other animals. We have all seen how close reptiles tanks are to each other in pet stores. Also I'd say the most common way of getting parasites is not from other geckos but from contaminated food. If I were you I would wait about three months, however, I cannot give an accurate estimate because I haven't reaserched it enough, I might wait longer.

Also in all honesty leopard geckos do not play. They may appear to interact with each other but they never play. Usually when you see them together they are laying next to each other, this is probably because they have found the most comfortable spot with the best temperature.

Good luck with your leos,
Lisa

why on earth would you want my opinion :P

Anyhue i agree a few weeks is a little premature. Wait a week or 2 longer to be on the safe side.

How old are the 2 of them?
Just incase you forgot or for any one else who's new, make sure to only introduce them if they are the same size, lets not relive that "my gecko ate another gecko and inch smaller than it"
If you want to see how they react pick one up and show it to the other one. As mentioned they don't really do much, unless ones a male and all it'll do is piss of your female, much like human life :D

leopardgeckoman Nov 03, 2004 06:52 AM

Well actually the one is about 9 months old and hes 9 inches, and my female is 9 inches and shes about 1 year and 4 months old.

Im not going to house them together, mainly because i dont want him causing a lot of stress on her, i just want to see what they would do if i let them out at the same time.

I asked for you because you seemed to have the most expierence in this field. Not that the you others dont, he was the only name i could think of.

so seriously 2 things will happen he'll either start vibrating his tail like a rattlesnake and bite her and try to mate with her or he won't respond.

In the case that he wants to mate i would suggest that you be ready to intervine or ready for eggs, just in case. The mating response is really cool to watch though i must admit

All my female does is swat the male away with her tail and stand on her toes to look bigger

leopardgeckoman Nov 03, 2004 06:02 PM

When i held him up to her cage ( at a safe distance ) it seemed to me that she was going to accept him for mating. She lifted up her tail and waited. Is this what the female does if she wants to mate?

I agree. You should quarantine for a longer period of time. At least 3 months in your own home. But like one of the other people had said, leopard geckos don't really play together at all. They are not like puppies in that way. Plus, they would be competing for food and more or less stressing eachother out. I wouldn't do it, but that's just my opinion.

What makes you come to that conclusion? I asked this question because i wanted to know who actually would give me a good answer. Im not going to introduce them for another months or so just to make sure everythings alright.
