Hey,
I'lll take a blood anyway that they come, fiesty, nasty, surly, ornery, cantankerous, what ever, if you catch my drift. Bloods are not for the faint of heart, and do require some knowledge of them prior to a purchase of one or a few. They do come with a lot of baggage so to speak, but they aren't that difficult to keep, if you understand what the prerequisites are to keeping them healthy in captivity. Ornery? the truth is, I haven't met one yet! Wink-wink! sweetest kids on the block.

This gal likes to think she's a tough cookie..
The female in the above picture is the only blood I have that I would really classify as 'testy'. She's also the only Captive Hatched blood that I have. Coincidence? Hmmmmm.....
Lunge at me? She'll be more than happy to take a swing at me if she's in the mood, but she's also extremely predictable...so in my opinion, if she manages to land a hit on me then I had it coming.
You just need to understand how to read these critters on THEIR level. They make it pretty clear what they do and don't like. Respect them and you won't have a problem. All of the Captive Bred bloods that I've worked with have been sweethearts.

And danced the sky on laugher-silvered wings...
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence"
All of my bloods are nice and easy to handle. Today I got a new blood in that I am sure is a wild-caught. He is not an animal I would give big hugs to at this time, but I have no doubt that in 6 months he will be cool with me. In a year he will be one of my best friends
I think with bloods you should take your time, let them relax, and learn to trust you. I have always heard how mean bloods are but I still don't get it. This wild male that I got today looks like he was handled rough in being captured, so now I have to teach him that I will never hurt him. Pretty much like any living thing, it always takes time, but the payoff can be unreal. jody
We have an adult pair of borneos that are just nasty, came to us as adults so we don't have too much backround info on them, you definately have to watch yourself when going into their cage or when handling them for cleaning time, the babies from them that we have gotten, most have been great from hatching, of course as babies they can be nippy, some of the babies are more nippy then others, and some are just fine, we have a yearling red that we just picked up a short while back, so far she is alright, maybe a little testy, fine when I have been handling her though, and we have a pair of het albinos, I can just reach in and grab usually, they give a few hisses every now and then, and are a little head shy at times, other then that besides the adult borneos they all seem fine once out and being handled, when hungry they can be a bit testy though..I guess as temperment wise goes it depends on how you treat the animal overall, but cb would be the best way to go, then its just the care that you put into the animal which can have an effect on how it turns out. Well thats just my input on what I have noticed so far since I have begun working with the few bloods we have now, but they are great animals to work with all the same.
I've kept wild caught imports and captive bred. All of my captive bred bloods/short tails were super tame. Even a wild caught adult I had was pretty tame, but just loved to hiss. I did have 2 wild caught imports around 1993 that were evil, butkept me on my toes. They would strike the glass 3 or 4 times when I walked past their cage. Let's just say cleaning time was "fun". Bloods and short tails have been given a bad reputation because of a few nasty individuals. The same has happened for green tree pythons. All of my green tree pythons are super tame.
