Watching the election tonight. I'm sad. How could my country, that I've always been so proud of be so delusional? So uninformed?
I'm really dissappointed. I think its time to play hardball.

The delusional party lost! LOL
Just goes to show you, morons like me have a much better handle on what the outcome of the election will be, than intelligent people like you do! LOL
Maybe your definitions of moron and intelligent need some revising?

Not making a direct comparison between Bush and Hitler because there isn't one however it is true that Hitler rose to power largely by the consent of the governed.
The point is that rhetoric and nationalism can motivate a people to elect the wrong leader with tragic consequences. Not saying that is the case here but there are some disturbing trends. While the Nazis used a hatred for the Jews to unify the population, the FAR right wing conservatives who IMHO have hi jacked the republican party are using a distain for the “liberal elite” to mobilize their base.
Ten years ago I considered myself a conservative but in that time the political winds of this country have swung so far right that I am no longer viewed as such. This is particularly interesting to me because generally we tend to become more conservative as we age. This proves one of two scenarios first that I’ve either failed to become more conservative even actually have becoming more liberal or second that some force is moving the country to the right faster than its aging population normally would. In my opinion the latter of the two scenarios is the likely case and I further believe that the move is largely driven by anti-liberal rhetoric. This would be fine if it were indeed fact based but in my view it is largely not. Few of my fellow republicans have much more than a superficial grasp of issues that the “liberal agenda” attempts to deal with. Understanding our opponent to effect the best course for the government has given way to an undermine and defeat them, at any cost, mentality. This coupled with the natural surge of patriotism we all felt post 911 has created a toxic mix. Never before in my years watching politics have I seen efforts to color those who would decent as unpatriotic. Keep in mind this is but a small verbal step away from claiming those who would disagree with the government as guilty of treason! When we as a nation begin to feel that our leaders shouldn’t be held accountable or are so fearful for our future that we have places our security in the hands of the government and can’t tolerate the orderly process of decent that is the heart of our constitution there is pause for concern.
Ugh, well when you get a bunch of otherwise decent people who love the red white and blue but don't know what it stands for and want to be protected from the terrorist boogeyman at all costs, this is what you get.
I agree. It's terrifying, what's happening to our country.
Anyone know how to make a human sized hide-box or should I just crawl under my bed and not come out for the next four years?
Feh, hope Bush gets reincarnated as a war refugee from some poor country or as a crack baby.

Actually I don't think it will get too bad and that the election turned out for the best. At least now when Iraq looms large the admin that started it will be left standing to deal with the political aftermath. Had Kerry been elected any ultimate failures of our Iraq policy would have been attributed to his leadership not how poorly the war was executed from the beginning. For the sake of our troops I hope I am wrong or that at least Bush finds a politically face saving way to can Rumsfeld.

Have to respectfully disagree a little with you there. I'm glad that Bush and company will have to clean up their own messes too and it can't get blamed on Kerry, but the war isn't the only thing. Also I'm afraid that Bush won't clean up his trouble, but will just start other disasters.
Not to mention at least one or two of the supreme court justices will resign during the next four years and their replacements will be handpicked by Bush who wants to satisfy the far right. The separation of church and state, Roe v Wade and some of our civil liberties could be severely weakened or annihlated.
No offense meant to our troops, but the state of the supreme court troubles me far more than the war.
I commend your guarded optimism though.

that is why the youth typaically vote democrat, and become republicans later in life. LOL

As a wise man once said:
"If you aren't a liberal when you're young then you lack a heart but, if you aren't Conservative when you grow older then you lack intellect!"
Eric
It's more like...Youth dreams unafraid. Older folk are afraid to dream.
And for the ultimate time....Someone who voted for;
Nixon
Reagan
and campaigned for Goldwater,
hardly qualifies as a liberal.
If you go back to my earliest post I have never made alliegence with that group or any other. My complaint was with Bush. The only reason I voted for Kerry.
