My egyptian uro

tristan Nov 03, 2004 03:01 AM

This is my egyptian uro Dog (I think he's a microlepis). Got him about a year ago from a lady in hollywood. He's about 23 inches and three years old. He was hardly tame and tailed whipped like a maniac when I got him but with some patient handling and help from green beans, he warmed up to me and now is very tame and friendly.
I also have two yearling egyptians (one microlepis and one aegypticus) I got from Joel from hacienda anura. I'll post some pics of them as soon as I get some.
Anyone else want to share some egyptian pics?
Regards,
Tristan

What's the latest with Boulder? We haven't seen him in awhile!

They are nearly the same size, Cleo is so sweet also.

But they can become very aggressive with other Uro's sometimes. It can come out of no where.

This is Aten. I've had him for just over a year now. I got him as part of a pair but he attacked his caemate (Ahnk) and she never recovered from her injuries.

Very pretty little guy, and yes I have wittnessed the agression.
Cleo lived with my saharan for more than 3 years, never apart.

Then one day she CHARGED him, picked him up like a ragdoll and shook him. That was it for that friendship

They get so large and so powerful its amazing ! Also something how friendly they become with people. Weird!

So what did you exactly do to get your uro tame? Cause I have an ornate and he isn't that tame. He whips his tail and does the S dance. So I don't want to stress him but I want to tame him. Thanks!! Please HELP!!!!!

It took awhile for me to tame him. Green beans really helped. I would take him out of his cage with gloves (his tail whips drew blood sometimes) and let him explore my room. Then I would take out some green beans and dangle them in his line of vision until he eventually started eating them out of my hand. After that, he warmed up to me really quick.
I recommend trying to handle them outside of their cage first because when you try to take them out of their cage, they can get really defensive. Once they're out, they will most likely explore your room. It takes lots of patience, but when they start seeing you as a food source (beans!) instead of a threat, they become really friendly.
Good luck!
Oh, thanks for everyone's replies. Aren't uros great? They each have interesting personalities!
regards,
tristan

All you have to do is go back to the post where Aten's picture should be, and right mouse click and hit view image. It'll take you to a different page.

Or:
Here he is.

Ramses favorite treat is hibiscus and kinda like a kid and an Oreo cookie - eat the middle first and walk around with it on your face. He does this every time.

I enjoy coming over here and seeing everyone's Uro pix. Here are my 2 Egyptians. They were a gift from a dear friend last fall. The photo was taken when they were about 7 months old. I really need to get some updated pics. I just love these guys!

Here's a more recent view of the bigger of the 2 Eqyptians, after making a total mess of their enclosure. Normally they are really neat eaters but this day was an exception! LOL Also a photo of a rescue Uro that we took in this summer. It's a beautiful lizard but arrived with a grossly swollen front foot. Xrays show lots of soft tissue swelling and the bones in the foot are all separated. The swelling has gone down a bit but the foot will always be large. It doesn't seem to bother the lizard in the least.

PHEve Nov 04, 2004 03:05 PM

They are gorgeous, Well I just love the egyptians, and yours has such nice coloring. Mine was a burn rescue many years ago. And is so very SPECIAL !

I also love your saharan, hes beautiful no matter whats wrong with his pretty little foot. I also, have a male red saharan, geesh , I think we have atleast one of everything PHNublia, hahahahahha !

It sure is great, your doing a SMASHING good job!

I would rescue more, but I have RESCUED enough, furries too, plus my own guys,(reptiles) and breeding a few species, LOL FULL HOUSE, ya KNOW what I mean !

Take care, love those guys , keep posting !
