Vegetarian Dragon?

justkilintyme Nov 03, 2004 06:12 AM

Can Bearded Dragons be maintained successfully on a mostly vegetarian diet? I have a sub adult, she is aprox 90 grams, healthy, and has been fed crickets dusted with mineral, and some veggies until now. The crickets are almost as much maintenance as her. I would like to have her eat vegetables, and occasionally fed crickets (once or twice a week). Also, what supplements should be mixed with the dragon salad?

Jesse

If necessary, I will continue with the cricket diet, but I would like to avoid that if possible...

I give Hades and Draco crix 1 time a week (if there are leftovers they get them the next day).

I'd do it if you don't want to spend all that money. Maybe wait until she's up to 100 grams to do it though.

Dragons are not vegetarians, they need insects as part of their diets. Sub adult dragons should still get a meal a day of insects. IF you don't like crickets you can use silkworms, butterworms, or various kinds of cockroaches. Pellets can also be added but not all dragons will eat them. Once a dragon is fully grown they are fine with insects a couple times a week, greens every day.
