Slow shed

ChaoticCoyote Nov 03, 2004 09:36 AM

We rescued Rex two weeks ago; the cut on his tail is healing nicely, and he's becoming friendlier with each passing day. He's about two-years old from the size of him.

But he's shedding slowly. In particular, his left front leg is still sheathed in dead scales. I can see healthly green scales underneath, but the dead scales seem slow to slough off.

I'm misting him daily, and he has plenty of fresh greens and water. Is there somethign else I should do? I hate to soak him with the healing wound on his tail.

I fill my bathtub with warm water every week and let my igs swim in it for about 10 minutes. Since I started doing that, they´ve never had that kind of problem anymore.

it would be a good idea to soak him. soaking him should not hurt the wound. it is good to keep it clean anyway. if im wrong someone please correct me.

yes, I don't think soaking will hurt it. I soaked my iguana often when he lost half of his tail. In my opinion, that is part of the reason it healed so fast and so cleanly.

Other things you can do are rub mineral oil on the shed or brush him with a baby hairbrush or a soft toothbrush. My iguana loves this, because it's nice and exfoliating, yet it isn't the evil human hand that he wants to bite!
