Another striking question

mikeowen17 Nov 03, 2004 09:53 AM

Just thought of another question..... my snow corn never strkes at or constritcts his food, just slithers over to it and opens his mouth. It it because hes been fed on defrosted pinkies for all of his 3 1/2 months of existence, or will he develop normal/striking behaviour as he gets older/his meals get larger? Any info apreciated!

well what are you feeding him now? If it's frozen/thawed, most of the time they see no need to constrict it. This is really the same with a live pinky or fuzzy. so small its pointless. some constrict every time. It depends on the personality of the snake. My black rat, one of my tx bairdis, and blue beauty will constrict anything, the others dont really care. you may also want to get a pair of kitchen tongs and hold the tail and dangle it around the face...which will make it appear alive. my black rat only constricts if it is fed like this. my licorice stick just opens her mouth and lets me put it in there, lol.

I just added two females; a couple of months old. My Amel is slow and easy when approaching her ft pinkie, but always eats immediately. My Miami attacks, constricts and "kills" it's ft pinkie and also eats immediately. They were both started the same way, i thinks it's just in their personality.
