Not sure if my Tegu is getting enough Vit C. PLEASE HELP

AlteredMind99 Nov 03, 2004 11:42 AM

Ok, I have a Red Tegu who is a bit of a fussy eater. It could be the winter months too, he doesnt seem very active. he refuses most live bugs, the only ones he will eat are super worms but when i put them in a dish he tips the dish over and they disapear into his substrate. He eats fruit occasionally, but only if i dunk them in egg first.

so, i have two questions.

1. Does anyone know any good tricks to feeding Tegus bugs so they wont disapear under the substrate? I thought about taking him out and feeding him in a seperate containor but he is very skittish and i doubt he would eat if i moved him.

2. He loves to eat pinkie and fuzzy mice, which i know is not a complete diet but im trying to work with what i got here. Is there anyway to supplement those with vitimin C. Like, getting vitimin C tablets or drops and somehow putting it on the pinkies?

any help would be really appreciated!

1. Get a heavier and flat bowl that is much tuffer to flip. Once I read I believe one of the St. Pierre recommend not feeding in a seprate enclosure because your tegu may think he needs to escape his home to eat. They are escape artist and do not need to be encouraged.

2. You already have it half figured out. Keep dipping the fruit in the egg but over time slowly use less and less egg.

Good Luck!
